Running 10k for the Thomas Francis Meagher Celebration

Running for the Tricolour: Team TFM Takes on the Viking 10k

Barry Kennedy and Joe Geraghty will run 10k, as part of the Viking Marathon Festival on 21 June to raise funds for the Thomas Francis Meagher (TFM) Celebration. They are both members of the TFM committee, a small, voluntary, apolitical community group based in the South East.

Every year in Waterford — at the Mall, the Viking Museum, and the Granville Hotel — we organise a weekend of talks, guided walks, and military ceremonies to commemorate the first raising of the tricolour by Thomas Francis Meagher on March 7, 1848.

The Tricolour was originally given as a gift in 1848 to Thomas Francis Meagher by a group of French women who supported Irish inclusion and independence. As Meagher explained, “The white in the centre signifies a lasting truce between the ‘Orange’ and the ‘Green’, and I trust that beneath its folds, the hands of the Irish…”

Thanks to Waterford City and County Council and the Granville Hotel, many of our expenses are covered, for which we are truly grateful. However, each year we still work tirelessly to keep things going.

With their fellow committee members, we thought one way to help would be to run the Viking Festival series next June.

Please support Team TFM to reach the finish line.
